To expand our team at the Linz site, we are looking for you as Senior Power Electronics HW Design Engineer (f/m/d/x) 

What are my responsibilities?

 

General responsibilities

  • Collaboration in concept creation and system design of electronic and electromechanical assemblies/systems/interfaces
  • Analysis of requirements
  • Product development:
    • electronic circuit design (schematics)
    • PCB/PCBA layout design
    • Wiring harness   
    • component specification
  • Support to specify the HW / SW interfaces and creation of technical requirements/specifications
  • Support to create test concepts for PCB/PCBA validation (durability, EMC/EMI, stress testing, etc.) and serial production (quality assurance)
  • Collaboration with internal and external development partners
  • Technical contact with suppliers, production sites
  • Technical support for the construction, commissioning and testing of prototypes and verification measurements of electronics assemblies and devices
  • Development processes and documentation in accordance with relevant regulatory provisions

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and validate power supply systems (AC/DC, DC/DC converters, isolated and non-isolated topologies)
  • Design, develop and validate the controls circuitry for power supplies
  • Work on power electronics circuits (inverters, gate drivers, high-efficiency converters, motor drives)
  • Perform schematic design and PCB/PCBA layoutdesign by using Altium Designer (experience with other EDA tools is a plus)
  • Optimize designs for efficiency, thermal performance, and reliability
  • Conduct component selection (MOSFETs, IGBTs, GaN/SiC devices, magnetics, capacitors) based on electrical, thermal, and cost criteria
  • Design and implement control strategies for switching converters and power conversion systems
  • Perform PCB/PCBA design with special focus on high-current traces, creepage/clearance, and thermal management
  • Apply EMI/EMC design techniques for power circuits and ensure compliance with regulatory standards
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards (IEC, IPC, EMC/EMI, safety, reliability, automotive/industrial if applicable)
  • Support prototype assembly, verification, and validation through PCB/PCBA manufacturing processes
  • Carry out hardware bring-up, debugging, and root cause analysis with oscilloscopes, current probes, power analyzers, and other lab instruments
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (firmware, mechanical, test engineers) to ensure system-level integration
  • Prepare design documentation, test reports, and compliance evidence for certifications

What do I need to qualify for this job?

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
  • 5+ years of professional experience in embedded hardware development
  • Proven knowledge of switch-mode power supply (SMPS) topologies (buck, boost, flyback, forward, resonant, etc.)
  • Expertise in semiconductor device selection (MOSFET, IGBT, GaN, SiC) and their application in high-efficiency circuits
  • Strong understanding of magnetics design (transformers, inductors, core materials, winding techniques)
  • Hands-on experience in power electronics simulation (LTSpice, PLECS, PSIM, MATLAB/Simulink)
  • Proficiency in thermal design and heat dissipation techniques
  • Proficiency in schematics design and PCB/PCBA layout design with Altium Designer, focusing on high-current, low-noise design
  • Deep knowledge of EMI/EMC design techniques for power circuits, filtering strategies, and layout best practices
  • Familiarity with safety and regulatory standards (IPC, IEC, UL, EN for power supplies and industrial electronics)
  • Practical lab experience with oscilloscopes, power analyzers, spectrum analyzers, thermal cameras, and load banks
  • Strong problem-solving skills, ability to work independently and in cross-disciplinary teams
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in German and English (at least B2 level)
